Dolphins bolster depth, sign safety Tyrone Culver to 2-year extension

by Edgar Thompson

Back-up safety Tyrone Culver, a solid special teams player in 2008 who made a number of nice plays in coverage during off-season practices, has signed a two-year contract extension, an NFL source confirmed.

Culver, a fourth-year pro, lined up in the dime package as the team’s third safety during off-season practices and provides a nice compliment to starters Yeremiah Bell and Gibril Wilson, who signed long-term deals in February worth up to a combined $47.5 million.

Last season, Culver was released and re-signed by the team in the span of a week during October. But Culver, 25, made the most of his second chance because of his special teams play and his nose for the ball.

Culver (6-1, 210) finished with 26 defensive stops (24 solos) and an interception in 14 appearances last season. He also was fifth on the Dolphins with 10 special teams tackles.

During recent off-season practices, Culver’s coverage skills were on display during several nice pass break-ups.  More – PalmBeachPost.comMiamiDolphins-223
